PRAGSER WILDSEE

This lake is one of my all time favourite spots in this part of Italy. For those who don´t know what I´m talking about, Pragser Wildsee is a lake surrounded by mountains in the northern part of Italy, this region is called South Tyrol (Dolomites). I have been here about five times now and I always like to take a little walk around this beautiful photogenic lake, take some photos, take few deep breaths and just enjoy little moments in this beautiful, beautiful nature.

This time the lake was frozen (again). Ok, out of five times I visited this place, once  I saw it only from far away because the weather was just terrible, the second time the weather was slightly better but still cloudy and foggy and then three times, including this one, past Monday the lake was completely or partially frozen. This time I was able to  take a walk on the ice, and I crossed the lake. Moments that count!

Alarm for all Instagram lovers or lovers of photography. This lake has grown its popularity in last few years thanks to social media and presence of photos of this beautiful lake on Instagram.

Pragser Wildsee, or also known as Lake Prags is approximately 160 kilometres away from Ljubljana (Slovenia), which is more than a 3 hours drive, since there are almost no highways. If you ask me, do a at least two days trip and visit this place (among some others, be sure to follow my future posts to get some ideas). The lake is located at the height of 1469 meters above sea level and is the largest natural lake in the Dolomites. I would definitely recommend to do a walk around this lake, which is around 4 kilometres long. Doable anytime. Sadly I have never visited this place during summer or in warmer months to see it in all of its glory, but winter views are also spectacular. The easiest way to reach it, is simply with a car. There is a huge parking right next to the hotel (Hotel Lago di Braies) which costs 5€ no matter how long you stay here. There are a bunch of hiking trails around the lake about which I cant tell you much, since I haven´t hiked on any of them (not much of a hiking person haha). Besides the hotel and a small chapel, there is nothing else around the lake. So the hotel is pretty much the only choice for a coffee or lunch. If you need any of it anyway.

I usually like to include into posts about trips or travel my personal opinion, recommendations, things like that. I usually don´t like to copy paste rough informations about certain places right off the internet and bomb you with all statistics and basic informations. But is this something you might be interested in? Would you love to read this kind of informations anyway? Let me know!

SLO

Sama sem jezero obiskala že petkrat in vsakič posebej me očara.

Čarobnost snega in beline.
