HOW TO MOTIVATE OURSELVES

Its been a month since the lock down (at least here in Slovenia) and way longer in some other countries. There is no secret that those times can affect our creativity, motivation and will to work big time. When it comes to a job of a content creator, a blogger, a freelancer there are quite some differences comparing to usual, company jobs (I’m sure you know what I’m talking about). Many of open jobs we had were put on hold till further notice, everything basically changed and was put on hold in a matter of hours. We now are in this era of insecurity and with way less to do than before. So what can you do to not let your creativity and motivation drop into a danger zone. Here are a few of my advices that I’m sticking to keep my mind busy and to not feel the pressure of letting myself down with doing nothing but think. We have to at least try to find a balance between what we were used to and what we do not have to. Try to stick to as many habits as we had before.

ROUTINE

Try to stick to your routine as much as possible. If you always had a coffee in a cute coffee shop and breakfast before staring a day try to do that at home now. Treat yourself with a cup of delicious coffee and prepare a healthy breakfast for yourself. You can even arrange a table a bit to feel like you are in a coffee shop. If you always took a ton of photos on a daily basis, try to do so. Maybe not as much since we are limited with allowing of being outside but challenge yourself to find new things you can shoot. If there are days when you simply don’t find anything or there is no will to do so you can go through old photos, you can try to edit again all those photos you felt unhappy with before. If you are used to meet different friends different days, call them instead. What I’m trying to say here is to not let yourself feel sorry for things you can not change and to let yourself just be on the couch watching tv. With which theres nothing wrong from time to time. Of course, the routine won’t be the same because it is simply impossible but if we maintain some sort of routine that we were used to our brains will stay in a working, creative mood way easier. Me as a blogger and content creator when the amount of work dropped I try to create beautiful photos no matter what. I choose different objects or things and try to make a beautiful shot around them.

PLAN YOUR DAY, WEEK

I love planning. I love writing down and even if buying planner 2020 seems now like an useless expense it still can come handy. Maybe there are no lunches to plan, or events but instead of that we can plan other things like tomorrow I’m going to make a cake, on Friday I will treat myself with a home spa, the day after tomorrow I’m going out to discover more of my neighbourhood. It really depends on the person and their priorities and things that make you happy how your plan is going to look. But if you have things planed that you will sticked to them easier and will help you to maintain some sort of routine. Write down and plan even the smallest things, it will feel better to see a planner full of things that need to be done, it will give some sort of fulfilment of our time. I have a bunch of different notebooks where I write things and it really helped me to stick with my plan, to even do more than I would usually do.

FIND NEW PEOPLE TO FOLLOW

Is there a more perfect time than now to discover new people around social media and internet to follow? Social media is such an inspirational place. I don’t know about you but when I find a new blogger, a new photographer on an Instagram that their work I find so appealing, to me is a huge motivation and inspiration. We can learn so much from people like this. No matter if you are looking for a photographer, videographer, content creator… social media is full of people that can inspire. Maybe their photography style is unique, or their outfits are on point, they can create amazing desserts… anything really can help us stay motivated and find new ways to express ourselves or to simply makes us try new things. Also, when we see that someone is keeping themselves busy and create no matter what it can be a push for us to also do something. However, we should never compete with someone in our heads, or let feel bed because of someone having something that we don’t, but this is a negative side of social media about which we are going to talk some other time. I try daily to find people who are inspiration to me and motivate me to be better in what I do. I always screen shot and save things that really impress me. You don’t want to see my folder haha. Also, it is a great time to listen to motivational podcasts or youtubers. It is amazing how human reacts to motivational speech and how much energy they can give you.

WORK ON YOUR CREATIVE SPACE

Either you have a home office, desk or just a small corner where you do all your things nowadays try to create a space where you will feel good. A right space, a right working space can be a big change in our creativity process or in any process where we must do something. Even if most of the stores are closed you can still order online some things that you meant to for ages that will bring some life and cuteness to your working space. It is important to feel good about this space. I clean my desk everyday and never leave unfinished things laying open around because they somehow hunt me then, and I hate having a messy desk. I always have around me just what I need for a certain job and I always keep things organised. You love plants? Put some plants on the table or around. You love blankets? Order the cosiest one there is. I have a pen obsession and I keep all my pens in a big jar near me which allows me to change pen every five minutes. I try to avoid distractions on my desk, so I keep it minimalistic to keep me motivated. When I’m done with shooting different flat lays I always clean the space and never let stuff just lay around because it bothers me so much and I wont feel ok about it. It is important to know what makes you feel good and try to accomplish that.

ONLINE PROGRAMS AND LESSONS

Now is the time to include yourself into some online programs, like masterclass and others. To learn new things and to stay motivated. Lessons like this will give you a fresh perspective and new energy to work. We are never too old to learn new things and if we had excuse before how we don’t have time, now we sure don’t have one. Find a class that suits you. Many creators and people are offering free classes, free live videos or guidelines nowadays, so it is perfect to include some in our daily life.

LAZY DAYS ARE OK

However, cut yourself some slack. There are days when you don’t feel like doing it, when everything seems out of our control, when we just want to roll under a blanket and watch Netflix and eat bad food. And it is ok to have days like this. We had them before, we have them now. The only difference is that before we couldn’t always do that because there were to many things that had to be done no matter what. But now, today, we can do that. So if you feel down and nothing feels right, have a day like this. Tomorrow can always be a better day. On days like this try not to eat yourself with how you should be doing something. Just tell yourself it’s not my day today and it’s going to be better tomorrow.

SLO

Minil je že mesec dni odkar se je Slovenija znašla v karanteni, nekatere države so v karanteni že dlje. Nobena skrivnost ni, da se lahko naša kreativnost, ustvarjalnost in motivacija znajdejo na preizkušnji. Sploh kadar govorimo o službi kot je ustvarjalec vsebin, bloger ali freelancer vemo, da gre za zelo drugačne službe kot tiste običajne službe z vnaprej določenim delovnikom (saj veste o čem govorim). Kako se motivirati? Kako ne dovoliti da kreativnost zdrsne na kritične nivoje? Kako kljub temu, da ves svet stoji nadaljevati svoje delo in ostati zbran. Tukaj je nekaj mojih predlogov, ki se jih tudi sama poslužujem, da ostanem motivirana in zaposlim svojo glavo. Vsekakor si ne dovolim razmišljanja v smer da bom sama sebe razočarala če mi ne bo vedno uspelo. Ravnovesje je trenutno, bolj kot kadarkoli prej, pomembno in nujno je, da nekako najdemo in vzdržujemo mejo med tistim, kar je bilo pred karanteno in zdaj. Da se držimo čim več dobrih navad, ki smo se jih držali tudi prej. Vzdržujemo ravnovesje.

RUTINA

Skušaj se držati svojih rutin kar se da. Če ste vajeni vsakodnevno kavo spiti nekje v lokalu ob odličnem zajtrku potem poskrbite, da boste uživali ob jutranji kavi doma. Vedno lahko preuredimo jedilnico, oziroma prostor, kjer bomo spili kavo, da se počutimo dobro. Če ste kot fotograf vajeni, da vsak dan naredite vsaj 100 posnetkov potem to rutino poskušajte obdržati tudi v the časih. Dobro, mogoče vsak dan ne ravno isto število slik, pa vendar. Lahko pa se namesto fotografiranja lotite tudi starejših slik, jih mogoče ponovno obdelate, vidite kako se je spremenil vaš stil skozi čas. Poskusite lahko tudi z fotografiranjem česa kar ni ravno vaša močna točka, lahko poiščete nove izive v domačem okolju in kraju. Če ste vajeni se ob različnih dnevih dobivati z različnimi prijatelji, jih zdaj pokličite. Kar skušam povedati je to, da se ne smete počutiti razočarane ali nesrečne zaradi stvari, ki trenutno niso v vaši moči, da bi jih spremenili. Pomembno je, da se ne počutite razočarane in zaradi tega le ležite na kavču. Pa vendar, z ležanjem na kavču ni od časa do časa prav nič narobe. Seveda vem, da je nemogoče da bi bila rutina ista kot prej, pa vendar je pomembno, da se trudimo vzdrževati vsaj neko raven le te in tako poskrbimo, da naši možgani ne zaspijo. Da se kreativni proces ne ustavi. Sama sem po tem, ko so se naročila ustavila, odločila, da bom z ustvarjanjem vsebin nadaljevala kljub vsemu. Izberem si določeno stvar in potem okoli nje ustvarim lepo fotografijo.

PLANIRAJ DAN/TEDEN

Sama obožujem planiranje, zapisovanje stvari. In čeprav se trenutno zdi, da je bil nakup planerja za letošnje leto ena sama potrata denarja temu ni tako. Res je, da nimamo planiranih sestankov, kosil, zabav in dogodkov pa vendar lahko kljub temu planiramo svoje dneve in tedne. Pomembno je, da planiramo in se tako zavedamo, da imamo stvari ki jih moramo narediti. Lahko naprimer planiramo peko torte v sredo, petek je dan za sproščujoč večer, v četrtek se bom odpravila raziskovati kotičke v svojem kraju. Zares je odvisno od posameznika, njegovih prioritet in želj kaj in kako početi. Vendar, če stvari načrtujemo se jih bomo veliko lažje držali in tako veliko lažje vzdrževali rutino. Zapišite in planirajte tudi najmanjše stvari, ki običajno ne bi zahtevale posebne pozornosti. Boljše se boste počutili, če boste imeli planer poln opravil in bodo tako vaši dnevi izgledali zapolnjeni. Sama imam cel kup zvezkov kamor si zapisujem stvari in si tako pomagam, da opravim res čisto vse in se držim nekega reda. Tako se ognem tudi temu, da ne bi naredila popolnoma nič in bi se potem vsega nabralo preveč.

SLEDI NOVIM, ZANIMIVIM LJUDEM

A je lahko še boljši čas kot je zdaj, da se posvetimo iskanju novih, zanimivih posameznikov v socialnih medijih? Socialni mediji, zlasti Instagram in Pinterest sta odlični platformi za iskanje in spoznavanje vedno novih posameznikov, ki nas navdihujejo, so inspiracija in motivacija. Sicer ne vem kako vidite to vi, vendar je zame vedno izredno motivacijsko, ko odkrijem kakšnega novega blogerja, oblikovalca čigar delo me pritegne. Od takšnih posameznikov se lahko ogromno naučimo. Ni pomembno ali nas zanimajo tisti, ki se ukvarjajo s fotografijo ali videom, modo, oblikovanjem, ahitekturo… mediji so polni ljudi, ki navdihujejo. Mogoče nas navduši njihovi stil fotografije in se bomo odločili poskusiti nekaj čisto novega, nas pritegne stil oblačenja ali pa kako čudovite tortice izdeluje. Vse to nam pomaga, da ostanemo motivirani, zbrani, sili nas v preizkušanje svojih meja in iskanju vedno novih zanimivih stvari. Pa tudi, kadar nekoga vidimo, da pridno dela, ustvarja, ni pri miru, nas to podzavestno prisili v to, da tudi sami skušamo nekaj početi, ne biti pri miru. Nas na nek način podzavestno porine naprej. Ampak nikoli, res nikoli, ne smemo dovoliti, da bi se zaradi tega kar nekdo ima, ali počne in mi ne počutili slabo, manjvredno. Vendar pa so to negativne posledice socialnih medijev v katere se tukaj ne bom spuščala. Sama skušam dnevno poiskati ljudi, ki me navdihujejo, čigar ustvarjanje mi pade v oko in so mi zanimivi. Tisto, kar mi je še posebej všeč potem shranim v posebno mapo, da lahko kadarkoli pogledam nazaj. Prav tako pa so super razni motivacijski govori, ki jih lahko najdemo ali na youtube ali pa preko raznih podcastov. Res je zanimivo, kako te lahko navdihne in vzpodbudi nekdo, ki govori o motivaciji in zagnanosti.

UREJEN DELOVNI PROSTOR

Ne glede na to ali imate domačo pisarno, le mizo ali manjši kotiček, delovni prostor, kjer se zadržujete, ko opravljate delo skušajte le tega urediti tako, da se boste v njem počutili najbolje. Pravi prostor, pravilno urejeni prostor, ki nas napolni z energijo je lahko velika sprememba v našem delovnem in kreativnem procesu. Četudi je trenutno večina trgovin zaprta si lahko preko interneta naročimo stvari, ki bi si jih želeli imeti, da bi naš prostor izgledal lepše, nam privlačnejše. Ključno je, da se v prostoru dobro počutimo. Sama vsak dan pospravim svojo mizo saj sovražim, če imam nametano vse povprek, nedokončanih stvari nikoli ne pustim odprtih na mizi saj me potem nekako preganjano, preprosto moram imeti vedno pospravljeno, da se dobro počutim. Na mizi imam vedno le stvari, ki jih v tistem trenutku potrebujem. Če imaste radi rože potem si omislite kakšno rožo ali več njih v prostoru. Imate radi oddeje, potem si kupite najbolj mehko in lepo oddejo kar jih je in jo imejte na stolu. Sama imam manjšo obsesijo s svinčniki in imam cel kup svinčnikov v velikem kozarcu na mizi, da lahko kadarkoli zamenjam svinčnik. Prav tako skušam na mizi ne imeti ničesar, kar bi kradlo mojo pozornost in tako odvračalo mojo zbranost in motiviranost. Tudi kadar kaj slikam vedno pospravim za sabo takoj ko končam. Preprosto vem, da se ne bom počutila sproščeno in zbrano če bom nekaj pustila razmetano.Ugotovite kaj in kako se počutite najbolj sproščeni in motivirani ter to skušajte doseči.

ONLINE UČENJE

Prav tako je sedaj super čas, da se vključite v kakšne online programe in učenje na daljavo. Dober primer je recimo masterclass. Tako se boste naučili novih stvari in pa ostali motivirani ter polni energije za delo. Sveža perspektiva. Dejstvo je, da nikoli nismo prestari za učenje novih stvari in če smo prej vedno imeli izgovor kako nimamo časa za takšne stvari je sedaj idelana priložnost, da se tega lotimo. Pomembno je le, da najdemo tečaj, ki ustreza našim željam in potrebam. Trenutno veliko ljudi, ustvarjalcev in drugih ponuja brezplačne lekcije ali na svojih youtube ali Instagram profilih.

LENI DNEVI SO VREDU

Pa vendar, svet stoji, povsod so negativne novice in ne bi bili ljudje, če se nas vse skupaj ne bi vsaj malo dotaknilo. Pridejo dnevi, ko se nam preprosto ne da, ko preprosto ne gre in nič ni narobe če takšne dneve prelenarimo, gledamo najljubšo serijo ali pa filme. Takšni dnevi so vredu, imeli smo jih prej in imamo jih zdaj. Le s to razliko, da lahko sedaj res pustimo vse (skoraj vse) na strani in smo leni pod najmehkejšo deko. Prej, pred karanteno, je bilo vseeno več stvari od katerih nismo mogli kar dvignit rok in reči – bomo jutri. Če ne gre danes, bo jutri bolši dan, bolj zagnan. Nič ni narobe z dnevom, ki je prelenarjen.
